Sekirei Tuner Special

A special chapter of Sekirei that answers one of the mysteries of the series: where was Tsukiumi staying before she was winged? I'm not sure when this was released in Japan, but since the translations appeared today and I haven't read it so I assume this is fairly recent.

Over the years Tsukiumi has grown taller, but the length of her skirt stayed the same.

Summary:
During dinner at Izumo Inn, out of the blue Minato and Homura wondered where Tsukiumi stayed before she was winged. Musubi was found hungry on the streets by Minato; Kazehana had traveled around; Kusano was found by Minato soon after she left MBI; and Homura and Matsu have been at the inn for a long time. However, Tsukiumi's whereabouts before she was winged is a mystery especially since she seemed to be clean and well-fed. Since Minato is curious, Tsukiumi spills the beans and explains that she was staying with her tuner (scientist who conditions Sekirei). Tsukiumi recalls an episode from when she was smaller than Kusano. That day Tsukiumi had climbed up to the roof of the house to escape all the tuning treatment, but she slipped and fell. Thankfully Tsukiumi's tuner caught her but punished her immediately after.

Back to the present, Tsukiumi realizes that her tuner really cared about her, but at the same time the tuner was very strict and Tsukiumi always feared her. Miya joins the conversation and mentions that Tsukiumi's tuner is a special adviser at MBI that even Minaka respects. The tuner is supposedly over 70 but looks very young, and she's supposedly even more of a mad scientist than Miya's husband Takehito. Miya then tries to recall the tuner's name, but Tsukiumi is scared that the tuner might appear out of nowhere. Lo and behold, Miya gets a phone call from the tuner looking for Tsukiumi. Tsukiumi takes the phone and chats with her former caretaker and eventually promises to bring her Ashikabis and friends for a visit.

Before reading this special, I actually never wondered where Tsukiumi was staying before she was winged, but this was a nice little story. I do remember that in a chapter Tsukiumi was reluctant to talk about her tuner, and this special revealed a bit of insight into why. However, the full identity of the tuner is still under wraps, so maybe she'll show up as a character in future chapters of Sekirei. The only thing we can say about the tuner at this point is that she certainly doesn't look 70 years old lol.
