Queen's Blade: Heir to the Throne 07

Irma vs. Risty; Tomoe vs. Elina; the next Queen's match-up; plus a surprise fight.

Warning: Definitely not safe for work!

That's a bit more than a spinal tap.

Shoddy list of highlights:
- Irma fights Risty in the crystal cave arena and gets smacked around by the more powerful Risty. Suddenly, Risty gets the headaches and Irma tries to take advantage. Unfortunately for Irma, she misses the attack and gets knocked out by Risty's mace, giving Risty the victory. After the match, Irma is dumped into a back alley where she is retrieved by Echidna. Echidna blames herself by leading Irma down this path and sheds a rare drop of tear.

Wow, that's the most blatant display of pedophilia I've seen in a network anime.

Always good to carry a couple of sausages around in case you get hungry during a battle.

- In the snowy arena, Elina gets into Tomoe's head by making fun of Tomoe's self-righteousness. Tomoe is reluctant to fight Elina because Elina is Reina's sister, but Elina learns of Tomoe's dealings with Reina and is enraged by jealousy. After an exchange of blows, Elina manages to rope Tomoe's legs. Elina pulls Tomoe in for the finishing blow, but Tomoe frees herself and knocks Elina out with a triple-kick combination to get the win.

Elina finally gets her lesson by the feet of Tomoe.

Yummil is checking out the balance of the sword. Seriously.

- After watching Tomoe and Elina's match, Reina wonders about her sword, and unfortunately Yummil has not made much progress.

Airi's aren't quite as large as Cattleya's, but Rana will make do with them for now.

- Airi is "getting friendly" with Rana when she is summoned for her Queen's Blade match. At the same time, Nanael is doing "holy poses" with Melpha when she is summoned for her match. Airi and Nanael are summoned to Aldora's collections room where the reigning queen will preside over the match. Airi knows that Aldora is up to no good and tries to warn Nanael, but Nanael is too full of herself to care.

Good to see that Nanael is as (un)intelligent as ever.

- After her match, Tomoe returns to the inn and finds a note from Shizuka. Following the note, Tomoe arrives at a cemetery where she is confronted by Shizuka. Shizuka states that everything up to this point has been a farce and she had planned to kill Tomoe all along. Tomoe doesn't want to fight Shizuka, but she is forced to draw her sword when Shizuka attacks and accuses her of being too nice and naive to save her country. After a heated battle Tomoe defeats Shizuka, and before closing her eyes Shizuka hands Tomoe her headband. Reading the message on the headband, Tomoe learns that Shizuka was lying before and had planned this fight so that Tomoe will no longer be hindered by her kindness. Shizuka admits she never thought she could love someone else this much and hopes Tomoe lives a long life. After reading the message, Tomoe cries over Shizuka's body.

Tomoe: You can't be dead, Shizuka! I barely even hit you.

- The ED sequence is the OP song playing over a reel of Shizuka's highlights.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shizuka is dead!? What!? She was my favorite character from last season, since she was cool, sexy, and had a sense of humor. Granted, given that she is not participating in the Queen's Blade tournament, her role has been reduced in this season, but still it seems a waste for her to die like that just to give Tomoe the emotional edge. Shizuka could have certainly made herself more useful by scouting out Aldora's forces and doing other information gathering in order to help Tomoe. And besides, if Tomoe ever wants a hug these days she'll have to go to Reina, and I don't think Shizuka would have wanted that. I for one don't believe Shizuka is really dead, because I didn't see Tomoe hitting her in any manner that would have killed her. We didn't see any blood, and we also didn't see Tomoe running Shizuka through with her sword. I wouldn't be too surprised if Shizuka made a surprise return somewhere down the line, but at the same time I won't getting my hopes up for her return either since there was the death montage during the Ed sequence.
The rest of the episode was pretty decent. The Risty vs. Irma fight was nice, and it seems that Irma managed survive even after receiving that nasty blow to the spine. I wonder why Aldora didn't freeze Irma as she did to all her other perceived threats. Seems a bit inconsistent to me. During the fight we also learned that not only is Echidna a sexual predator (her assaults on Reina), she is also a pedophile given that she slept naked with the young Irma. The Elina vs. Tomoe fight wasn't bad either, and Tomoe had a really nice finishing move with the triple-kick combination. It was also kind of funny that Elina was eating sausage during fight, although eating didn't really help her win.
So next up we have the hungry Airi vs. the hungry Nanael with Aldora watching hungrily from the sidelines. I think we are going to see the return of the holy yogurt spills lol.
