Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 26

Ed and Ling battle Envy in Gluttony's stomach; Al follows Gluttony into the underground with Scar and May on their trail; and Wrath tells Mustang the story of how he came to be.

Ed probably doesn't taste very good. Not much meat and a lot of metal.

Summary:
Within Gluttony's stomach, Envy is bashing Ling and Ed around. Ed has some chances to attack but he is distracted by the souls with Envy that are calling for help or begging for death. The distraction allows Envy to grab Ed and swallow him whole.

Somewhere in Central, May and Scar and trying to find Xiao-May, and to their luck they spot the mini-panda with Al and Gluttony in a nearby alley. Scar and May follow Al and Gluttony through a door and May gets a bad feeling about something that's underneath them. Al follows Gluttony underground to a tunnel that's littered with human bones. When Al asks about the remains, Gluttony states that they are left by the "guards". Al looks up and spots a large number of beastly eyes looking down at him. Al asks Gluttony if Father knows where Ed is, and Gluttony answers that Father knows everything.

Eating automail is bad for your teeth.

Back in Gluttony's stomach, Ed is being brought deeper within Envy and he spots Envy's Philosopher's Stone. As Ed is about to close his eyes, he suddenly remembers the transmutation circle he saw in the ruins of Xerxes and gets an idea. Ed then climbs back to Envy's mouth and states that there might be a way out of Gluttony's stomach, but this plan needs Envy's cooperation.

Cerberus is no match for the Right Hand of Destruction.

In the underground tunnels, May and Scar are attacked by many chimeras, but the Ishvalan and Xingese alchemist are able to fend off the savage beasts. After killing one wave of the beasts, May states that she senses a large group of people underneath her feet.

In Central HQ, King Bradley/Wrath is telling Mustang about how he became the Fuhrer. Bradley started out as a nameless child who was trained with many nameless children in a secret complex. The children were taught politics, leadership, military tactics, and combat in a program designed to manufacture the next leader of Amestris. After the trainees have grown into young men, the scientists and Father started the final phase of the program which is to administer Wrath's Philosopher's Stone into the trainees. The first 11 subjects were killed by the experiment, but the current Wrath survived the infusion and became King Bradley. Mustang wonders that if Wrath was once a human then why doesn't he live as a human instead, and Wrath answers that he is proud to be a homunculus just like humans are proud to be humans.

Back in Gluttony's stomach, Envy has let Ed out and brought back pieces of the ruins that contains drawings of a transmutation circle. Ed studies the drawings and explains that his idea is decompose and recompose everyone's body which wound count as human transmutation. This act should bring Ed to the real Gate of Truth and allow everyone to return to the real world, and they are going to use Envy's stone to pay the fee for using the Gate. Before commencing with the transmutation, Ed notes that the Xerxes transmutation circle indicates that someone was trying to surpass God by transmuting all of Xerxes' inhabitants. Ed demands to know if that person was Father and if he wants to repeat the same tragedy with Amestris, but Envy states that he'll answer only after they've escaped.

Time to take the interdimensional Gate of Truth express.

The 1 million dollar question: how much taller is Al compared to Ed?

Ed starts the transmutation and the process breaks down everyone's body and send it through the transmutation circle. Ed is brought before the Gate, but to his surprise there is another Gate behind him. To Ed's surprise, there's a person sitting in front of the other gate and that person turns out to be Al's malnourished body. Ed tries to run over and grab his brother's body, but the Gate in front of him opens and black tendrils extend out to pull Ed into the Gate. Ed screams for Al's body to come with him, but Al's body states that Ed is not his soul. As he is dragged into the Gate, Ed promises that he'll come back someday to retrieve Al and tells Al to wait for him.

Yeah YOU! Yeah I'm talking to YOU!!

How to get out of a place with no exit? Take the interdimensional Gate of Truth! That's what Ed has concluded anyways. Ed has shown himself to be quite the thinker at times, and it's pretty impressive how he is able to relate his own human transmutation experience to the drawings on the ruins and Envy's stone to come up with the plan to escape. This was a situation where his human transmutation experience really came in handy... in more than one way. Not only did Ed find a way out, as a bonus he even discovers that Al's body is still alive within the Gate. This was one of cool parts of the FMA manga, and it is another one of those developments that give Ed the extra motivation to continue on.

Anyways, with Ed, Ling, and Envy about to escape, Al and Gluttony headed for Father and Scar and May on their trail, you can imagine that there's going to be big party in Father's throne room. Too bad next episode seems to be mostly about Hohenheim for some reason. I don't quite remember the part where Hohenheim is drinking beer and looking at random people dance in front of the fire.

Ed and company are on their way out of Gluttony's stomach, but Mustang's situation still looks pretty bleak now that he is under the Fuhrer's watch. The story of how King Bradley came to be is pretty interesting, but I always wonders who ruled Amestris before King Bradley was "completed". Obviously Father had a bunch of soldiers and scientists under his command already before King Bradley became to be, but we don't know who was the public ruling figure of the land at the time or if Amestris has formed back then. Maybe the series will explain eventually.
