Here's a direct way to set the tone for the show.
Panty catching another man for herself.
Premise:
Exiled angels Panty and Stocking battle evil spirits in a city on the border between heaven and hell in order to collect coins to ascend back to heaven.
It's not the most revealing transformation sequence, but the pole dancing makes up for the lack of skin.
It's raining (police)men... and their cruisers!
List of highlights/lowlights:
1st half: Panty and Stocking defeat a giant poop monster that threatened to engulf the city in poo. Both angels pole-danced during their transformations and Panty had sex with three guys.
Police cars are also subject to the funnel effect.
2nd half: After a sexual rendezvous with another man, Panty joins Stocking in chasing down a speed demon that's running amok in the city streets. During the chase, Panty loses her panties to the demon but eventually gets them back and defeats the demon for good.
Like hot knife through butter.
They are not exactly filming the action down below, are they?

The people at Gainax... have to hand it to them to come up with something so "different". With the American cartoon-style art but stuffed full of sexual innuendo and lowbrow humor, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is like Powerpuff Girls gone really REALLY bad. The show went out of its way to be crass and indecent, which is actually a nice juxtaposition to the art style. My guess is that the series is someone's an attempt to parody American cartoons, and Gainax is definitely not doing a bad job of it.
More importantly, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is actually a pretty good action show once you strip away all the sex, poop, animal abuse and other questionable material. Production quality is quite good, and action scenes are fast, funny and wacky. I especially like what they did with the hundreds of police cars in the second half of the episode. Gainax also did a commendable job with the music and sound effects, especially during Panty and Stocking's transformation scene. I enjoy action and lowbrow humor and don't mind the innuendos, so I found the first episode to be an absolute riot. I'll definitely watch a few more episodes to see if the craziness continues. I probably won't blog the show though since my two schedule is already full with Index season 2 and Motto To-Love-Ru, although I wouldn't be surprised if this show turns out to be more entertaining than those two.
