Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ 10

Uzume takes on Musubi and Tsukiumi.

Uzume needs to watch her back.

Summary:
Uzume challenges Musubi and Tsukiumi outside the hospital. Musubi accepts the challenge and engages Uzume in combat while Tsukiumi stands by to watch as she believes Sekirei fights should be one on one. Minato arrives, but Tsukiumi stops him from interfering. The fight ends up being a draw with both Musubi and Uzume unable to continue. Watching the fight from his car, Kakizaki decides to call in backups and Sekireis No. 16 and 18 arrive and they double-team Tsukiumi, but Homura and Kazehana arrive to swing the numbers back in favor of Minato's group. Kakizaki gives the signal to retreat, but No. 16 gets past Minato and Tsukiumi and tries to stab Musubi. Homura and Kazehana try to intervene, but it was Uzume who threw herself in the way and took the hit for Musubi. After Higa's Sekireis retreat, the dying Uzume requests that Minato help look after Chiho, and Minato agrees. Before her Sekirei crest fades away, Uzume thinks back to her times with Chiho:

Oh NO!!

Apparently Sekireis have magically appearing outfits.

Uzume and Chiho met when Uzume was on a shopping errand for Miya. Uzume was taking a break at the top of the hospital and Chiho mistakenly thought that Uzume wanted to commit suicide. They both end up falling off the building and Uzume saved Chiho. After hanging out with each other for a while, the two finally kissed and Uzume became Chiho's Sekirei.

At least there will be memories.

Those keyboards won't last very long if you keep typing on them like that.

The day after Uzume's deactivation, Kazehana is at the inn binge drinking, and Miya actually decides to share a cup as well. Meanwhile, Minato, Kusano, Musubi, and Tsukiumi visit Chiho at the hospital, and Musubi promises she'll become the winner of the Sekirei plan and bring Uzume back to Chiho. Later back at the inn, Minato decides that he can't just mope around and do nothing, so he goes to talk to Matsu who has the same idea. Minato wants to talk to Higa face to face about Chiho's situation (Higa owns the hospital), and to force Higa to appear Matsu launches a cyber attack against Higa's company. However during the attack, Minato gets a phone call from the hospital stating that Chiho's situation has suddenly worsened. Later at the hospital hallway, Minato runs into Higa who is on his way to deliver some flowers to Chiho.

Manipulative evil bastard alert.

There is a special ED sequence dedicated to Uzume and Chiho.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They killed Uzume off?! I totally didn't expect this to happen. This is a BIG deviation from the manga. *manga spoiler* It's funny that Uzume is also currently the focus of the manga, but she is still alive and well *end spoiler*. I thought Uzume would fight Musubi and Tsukiumi but not have the battle reach any sort of definite conclusion, but this puts the anime on a different track. It looks like the anime is determined to go on its own path now, since this kind of development cannot be reversed (without seriously bad effects).
As for the episode itself, it was not bad, although I'm probably too focused on Uzume's unexpected departure to say much else. Quite a few minutes was about how Uzume met Chiho which was also a bit different from the manga version. The fight between Uzume and Musubi was nicely choreographed, but the actual scenes of combat wasn't that long.
With this big development, it looks like we'll be getting plenty of anime-original material from ~Pure Engagement~. It'll be interesting now to see where the anime goes from now. Will it still mostly follow the manga or will it completely go off on its own? It's hard to say at this point, but there probably will be one more season to the show to put together a satisfying ending.
