Ai receives a confession letter.
Summary:
Ai is well-known in her high school for her habit of kicking her little brother Makoto, and for this reason most guys usually stay clear of her. One day, Makoto bumps into Ai at the cubby holes. Makoto is expecting to get kicked again, but he then notices a letter inside Ai's cubby hole. Instead of kicking Makoto, Ai grabs the letter and bolts, leaving Makoto in her dust. Later in the day, the diving club meets up for a training run. During the run, Makoto catches up to Ai and asks her about the letter and ends up getting kicked. After kicking Makoto, Ai explains that the letter came from one of the guys on the baseball team. The guy is in Ai's class this year, but they never really talked so Ai is puzzled at why the guy chose to give her a letter. Makoto makes a joke about Ai welcoming the season and expects to get kicked again, but to his surprise Ai is actually quite embarrassed by the love letter.
Having not read the letter yet, Ai sits down and opens the letter, but after a quick glance she bolts away, forcing Makoto to trail after her. Ai runs back to the cubby hole room and states that the letter was actually meant for the girl whose cubby hole was underneath hers. Makoto worries about what Ai will do to the baseball guy (and himself), but surprisingly Ai is not mad. On their way back to the training session, Ai explains that she feels happy whenever she sees someone working hard to pursue something, and the baseball guy must have worked hard to come up with the courage to write the confession letter. Ai adds that seeing others work hard inspire her to work hard as well, and Makoto agrees. Ai then tells Makoto to work hard at becoming a real man. Makoto wishes the same for her older sister and gets kicked in the gut for that response.

A short, possibly Valentines-themed chapter this month. When I read the title of this chapter ("Confession Letter"), I was thinking "What? Amanchu! is turning into a high school romance?". I was also surprised that Ai was the one who received the letter, especially given her reputation. In the end though, Amano-sensei once again skirted over the love between boys and girls in her typical fashion. Besides, if there is going to be any romance, it'll be between Hikari and Futaba lol. Overall, this chapter was a decent but somewhat run-of-the-mill slice-of-life chapter. We did learn that Ai isn't adverse to the idea of dating a guy and she likes people who works hard, but what about the diving? I'm still waiting for the diving club to take a trip into the ocean. Hopefully that'll happen soon.
