Scar tries to evade capture in the western part of the country, while the Elrics have an unexpected meeting with Selim Bradley, the Fuhrer's son.
Summary:
In the East City train station, General Grumman (disguised as an old lady) bumps into May who drops her groceries. After picking up her groceries, May runs off to a hooded man to catch a train to the north, and Grumman notices May's mini-panda. Meanwhile, Scar and another hooded man is escaping from military pursuit towards the west. At Central, Kimblee decides to head off to West City after getting word of Scar's movements, and the seasoned alchemist realizes that Scar seems to be drawing attention to himself. Later at the Central Train station, Kimblee recognizes the disguised Grumman leaving the station but decides to take no action.
At the cemetery, Grumman meets up with Mustang in front of Maes Hughes' grave. After learning about what's been going on, Grumman notes when he was working in Central, Raven had once approached him about immortal soldiers. Grumman dismissed the idea as being ridiculous, but soon after he was reassigned to East City. Mustang tries to get Grumman fired up by saying that the general can't be satisfied with just staying in East City, and Grumman agrees that the situation has piqued his interest. Just as Grumman and Mustang are about to part ways, Grumman spots the drawing of Xiao May among the documents Mustang is holding.
Meanwhile, the Elrics are in the Central library trying to dig up information of Xingese alchemy. After failing to locate May, the Elrics turn to the library but they are not finding much information. While searching for more books, Ed is approached by Alex Armstrong who reports that May has been spotted heading north on the railway (by Grumman). Knowing that Ed is planning to head north, Alex gives Ed an introduction letter which might become useful if Ed ever meets the major-general up in the Briggs fortress who happens to be Alex's sister.
Elsewhere in the library, Al is reading through some books when he is approached by a young boy who sees Al and Ed as his idols. The boy asks Al what he is doing, and Al lies that he is looking at Xingese alchemy for medicinal purposes. At this moment Ed arrives to inform Al that they're heading north, but Ed gets pissed off when the little boy states that Ed is as small as the rumors said. Ed is about to accost the little boy when he discovers that two agents had drawn their guns against him, and the Elrics finally realize that the little boy is Selim Bradley, King Bradley's son.
The Elrics are invited by Selim back to the Fuhrer's residence in Central HQ where they have a chat with Selim and Mrs. Bradley. The Elrics are surprised that Selim and Mrs. Bradley seem rather normal despite King Bradley being a homunculus. The situation becomes even more awkward when King Bradley himself unexpectedly drops him, and King Bradley reveals that he is not Selim's biological father and Selim was adopted from relatives. After leaving the Fuhrer's residence, the Elrics wonder if Selim and Mrs. Bradley know the truth about King Bradley. The brothers then head off to the train station to start their journey to the north.
Back in the western parts of the country, Scar and his companion have managed to evade capture by escaping onto and off of a train. At a train station in the west, Kimblee guesses that Scar may have left the train when the train was going through a slow and winding part of the tracks. From that location, Scar can either go north or south, and Kimblee thinks that he knows where Scar is heading.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The story is still in build-up mode, but it's apparent now that the next part of the story will take place in the northern regions of Amestris. Scar's group is heading up north, and both Kimblee and the Elrics on their tails. We'll also see the personnel at the Briggs fortress including Alex's sister Major-General Armstrong. It's the start of a new part of the story, with a new setting and new characters. Let's see if Bones can keep up the good work.
As for the rest of the episode, Mustang has rebounded from losing his subordinates and has enlisted General Grumman for help, but the two of them will probably take their time to plan out their moves. Grumman did show himself to be a master of disguise lol. At least he's better at than Riza who just let her hair down and thought she could get away with it. There was also the segment between the Elrics and Selim which concludes with a rather awkward and tense sit-down at the Fuhrer's residence. I'm not sure if Wrath was trying to achieve anything during the sitting, but the Elrics were obviously feeling uncomfortable with the notion that a homunculus can have a normal family. Wrath is pretty interesting given that he was originally human and has all of his human memories, and the way he acts seems to indicate that he could still have a human side.
That's all I'm going to say for this episode in order to avoid spoiling the non-manga-reader crowd. The next episode is the true start of the northern adventures arc, and we may get some Kimblee vs. Scar action as well.
